Our Republic

It is said, that Thomas Jefferson was asked upon leaving Constitutional Hall what the nature of the new Government was to be and he responded, “A Republic if you can keep it.” Although this statement seems terribly insightful today with the chaos we are experiencing. It has been true ever since he uttered those words. It was Ronald Regan who said, “Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like to live in the United States where men were free.”

So now we find ourselves close to our sunset years and because we let go of the fight, we let the Marxists, Socialists, and Communists subvert our freedoms and use them against us to bring the day closer that both Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan’s words start to have a frightful ring of eventuality. The question is, have we lost the fight. If we do not stand up and stand up now, we find ourselves being the generation that must tell the story of the free United States because we failed to fight for it and protect it. I say its not too late, but we have to reflect upon the United States we knew and recognize we no longer live there. We must recognize what we are risking in not picking up the Banner and moving it forward. What we are risking is the failure of this grand experiment in self-governance that our Founding fathers and every generation since has fought and died for.

I say we must stand together and say “It’s not okay.” It’s not okay that you tear down our statues erected to celebrate the fight that’s been waged “to form a more perfect Union.” It’s not okay that the character of our founding fathers has been besmirched in the name of Critical Race Theory. It’s not okay to stop teaching our children of the greatness of this country that has brought more Freedom and prosperity to the world than any other country in the history of the world. It is so easy to tear down all that has been when you are not holding yourself responsible for offering the solution to the problems you say exist. The solutions they offer have been proven as failing systems of government time and time again. It’s not that Marxism, socialism, and communism have failed but they fail and leave a history of the worst acts of human cruelty, misery, and suffering in history. Marxism, Socialism, and Communism have been responsible for more genocides and mass murder of world populations than anything else in the written history of the world.

So why is this country so great? Our founding documents were so well thought out by our founding fathers and they based the founding principles upon the centuries of European government failures. They knew there was nothing more powerful that the desire of a people to be free from tyrants and despots. The 13 original colonies were as diverse in thought and practice of life as any group of people could be but they had the one common desire – Freedom.

So they through debate and compromise forged the document we call “The Constitution.” In that document the foundation of our government was laid out. The original Seven Articles gave powers to Three branches of the Government with the each having its place of power and the others having checks and balances to avoid abuse. Some of the issues we see in our government today is the erosion of the defining lines between these powers and the corresponding checks and balances. The creation of bureaucratic rule started to take hold and our three branches of Government started to shift responsibility and control to unelected officials. This again “is not okay.”

How do we take our country back? We must return to the proven path we were given some 250 years ago. We must have a return to “the Constitution” and the principles established there within. It has proven to be a NorthStar, a guiding light through the darkness of many trials and tribulations that centuries have brought us. “The Constitution” at 250 years old is the oldest and longest standing Foundational Document and has proven through its structure and the twenty-seven subsequent amendments to be a trustworthy plan in which to “form a more perfect union.”
